What is a lulav case?
A lulav case is a fitted protective sleeve that carries the lulav — together with its hadassim and aravos — to and from shul each day of Sukkos. It shields the lulav's delicate tip and keeps the bound species from being crushed, which the thin plastic dealer sleeve does little to prevent.
Why does the lulav need protection?
A lulav whose center leaf splits or whose tip breaks can lose its kashrus, and hadassim and aravos wilt or shed when knocked around. A structured case guards the tip and holds the set steady — daily insurance for a mitzvah performed all week.
What fits inside a lulav case?
The full assembled set: the lulav with its rings, hadassim, and aravos bound in place. Waterdale cases are cut full-length so nothing bends, with room to slide the set in and out without loosening the binding.
What styles of lulav cases does Waterdale offer?
The line includes leather cases in crystal and embroidered designs, fur and scattered fur, lace, and the pillow script series — plus combined lulav and esrog cases that carry everything in one piece. Most match an esrog bag in the same design.
Is a combined lulav and esrog case better than separates?
Combined cases mean one handle to shul and back — the esrog rides in its own fitted compartment, the lulav in its sleeve. Separates suit those who keep the esrog box on display at home; the combined case suits the daily commuter to davening.
Will a standard-size lulav fit?
Yes — the cases are cut for full-length lulavim including the rings and binding. If you take an especially tall lulav, measure before Yom Tov; the sleeve should exceed the lulav's height so the tip never bears pressure.
Who is a lulav case a good gift for?
A bar mitzvah boy taking his own arba minim for the first time is the classic recipient — the case marks the occasion and lasts for years of Yom Tov. Paired with a matching esrog bag, it's a complete and memorable Sukkos gift.
