Each day of Sukkos (except Shabbos), the lulav and esrog are held together with hadassim and aravos and waved during Hallel and Hoshanos. Because the set is handled every day of Yom Tov and carried to and from shul, a proper lulav case and esrog box are what keep the four species kosher and beautiful through the week.
In 2026 the first day of Sukkos falls on Shabbos, September 26, when the lulav is not taken — so the first netilas lulav is Sunday, September 27. The mitzvah continues each weekday of the holiday through Hoshana Rabbah on Friday, October 2.
