Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose resin for a Rosh Hashanah tablescape?

Resin gives you the depth and veining of natural stone without the weight, porousness, or fragility of real marble. It holds a polished finish year after year, wipes clean after a honey-heavy meal, and coordinates easily with metallics and Lucite across the resin Rosh Hashana collection. For a table that gets set twice over two days of Yom Tov and then stored, that durability matters.

What is the difference between resin and real marble Judaica?

Real marble is a porous natural stone: heavy, cold to the touch, and liable to stain from honey or wine if it isn't sealed. Resin is cast to mimic that stone-like veining while staying lighter, non-porous, and far less likely to chip when a serving piece knocks against it. For the Rosh Hashanah table that gets set, cleared, and set again, resin is the more practical of the two.

Is resin food safe?

Waterdale's resin serving pieces are made for food contact, so honey, dips, and simanim can be served directly from them. Resin is not dishwasher safe, though. Wipe the surface down soon after the meal so honey does not sit and harden along the edges.

How do you clean resin Judaica after Yom Tov?

Hand wash only, using warm water and a soft cloth or sponge with a mild dish soap. Skip the dishwasher, abrasive scrubbers, and bleach-based cleaners, all of which can dull the polished surface. Dry fully before storing so no moisture gets trapped against the finish.

What is a Kiddush cup fountain and how does it work?

A Kiddush cup fountain is a central cup that sits above a set of smaller cups, so the wine poured into the top cup flows down and fills each one below. It lets everyone at the table receive wine from the Kiddush cup at once, which is why it is popular for large Yom Tov meals with guests.

What pieces do you need to recreate the resin tablescape?

The anchors are the resin Simanim tray, a honey dish, and a challah board, since those three carry the stone-like finish across the center of the table. From there, chargers and napkin rings extend it to each seat, and the pitcher, decanter, and centerpiece bowl fill the space between. You can build it over two or three seasons rather than all at once.

Should you dip challah in salt or in honey on Rosh Hashanah?

On Rosh Hashanah, it is traditional to dip the challah in honey instead of salt to symbolize a sweet new year. While many communities use honey exclusively during the holiday season, others have the custom to dip the challah in both salt and honey. Consider a combo honey and salt dish for a truly elevated Yom Tov tablescape.
