Resin gives you the depth and veining of natural stone without the weight, porousness, or fragility of real marble. It holds a polished finish year after year, wipes clean after a honey-heavy meal, and coordinates easily with metallics and Lucite across the resin Rosh Hashana collection. For a table that gets set twice over two days of Yom Tov and then stored, that durability matters.
Real marble is a porous natural stone: heavy, cold to the touch, and liable to stain from honey or wine if it isn't sealed. Resin is cast to mimic that stone-like veining while staying lighter, non-porous, and far less likely to chip when a serving piece knocks against it. For the Rosh Hashanah table that gets set, cleared, and set again, resin is the more practical of the two.
Waterdale's resin serving pieces are made for food contact, so honey, dips, and simanim can be served directly from them. Resin is not dishwasher safe, though. Wipe the surface down soon after the meal so honey does not sit and harden along the edges.
Hand wash only, using warm water and a soft cloth or sponge with a mild dish soap. Skip the dishwasher, abrasive scrubbers, and bleach-based cleaners, all of which can dull the polished surface. Dry fully before storing so no moisture gets trapped against the finish.
